2013-03-31
PHOENIX, AZ, March 31, 2013 (Press-News.org) Oasis Personal Training Center in Phoenix, Arizona is hosting a "Fun" Raising Fitness Trek May 11, 2013. Owner Ron Moore is organizing a 7-mile hike and 7 mile bike to help 200 Orphanages Worldwide raise funds for a modern latrine facility for orphan boys in Kenya. Registration for the trek and participation in the 8 weeks of training is $250. Other options are available including a no training option with registration fee of $60. The start time of the event May 11 will be announced, all trainings are listed on the http://www.oasisptc.com website calendar.

Moore has lived and worked in the Valley for years and has organized various charity events through his fitness club. He was touched by the plight of the orphan boys in Kenya because he has boys of his own. He hopes the fitness trek will raise enough funds to provide a simple outdoor latrine for orphan boys. He heard about the need from client Jan Hanson, founder and director of 200 Orphanages Worldwide.

200 Orphanages Worldwide is a 501 3 (C) nonprofit and helps partner organizations raise funds for building projects that will better serves orphans in their care. Founder and director Jan Hanson winters in Scottsdale while developing a network of volunteers and supporters to help build brighter futures for orphans. "Our mission touches the hearts of people from all walks of life and provides a direct way for people like Ron to make an impact in the lives of orphans," Hanson said. "With the help of small fund raisers and events, supporters and volunteers have helped fund security walls, outdoor kitchens, latrines, dormitories in places like Tanzania, Haiti, Rwanda and Uganda. Our latest project is an orphan home for 12 HIV/AIDs orphans in Cameroon. Our goal this year is to engage and mobilize volunteers to host small events or fund raisers around the country. These events help us connect intimately with people about the needs of the orphans. It also lets people make a direct impact in the life of an orphan."

The funds from the Oasis Fitness Trek will go toward NGATHA International's orphan home in Kenya. The boys and girls at NGATHA International currently reside in the former Kenya home of founder Dr. Mumbi Mwangi, a professor at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud Minnesota. Dr. Mwangi has not forgotten the orphans in her village in Kenya and provides medical care and education for 40 orphans in and around her village.

Ngatha is just one of our projects, but it meets the criteria of becoming a partner project of 200 Orphanages Worldwide. Our role is to build awareness and raise funds for our partner projects. When I met Ron Moore through his fitness club, I shared with him the need. He was moved to action and agreed to adopt the project," Hanson said. The orphans with Ngatha International need a modern latrine facility, and a boy's dormitory, Hanson said. The Fitness trek goal is to raise $3,500 for the modern latrine facility.

"This effort is a perfect example of everyday people from all walks of life doing something for orphans who have so little," said Hanson said. Even a little bit is so much to these children. It also shows the orphans that they may be orphaned, but they are not forgotten. The needs are so great and we know we can't do it all, but we can all do something."
