LateRooms.com - Enjoy a Seal and Porpoise Watch Near Tenby

Tenby visitors will have an opportunity to see seals and porpoises in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park this autumn.

2010-08-24
TENBY, WALES, August 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) People staying in one of the many hotels Tenby has to offer often like to take advantage of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, which is situated nearby.

A number of special events are held in this beautiful region, with next month's Seal and Porpoise Watch expected to attract its fair share of keen walkers and wildlife lovers.

Taking place on Monday September 27th, it will offer people a chance to see the grey seals that breed on the beaches around the cliffs of St Justinian's.

Participants are asked to meet in St David's at 11:45 BST and catch the Celtic Coaster bus service to St Justinian's, before walking six miles back along the coastal path.

Some steep sloping is included in the route, but generally the going is fairly moderate, according to the park's supervisors.

Tickets are priced at GBP5.50 and walkers are advised to bring binoculars and their bus fare.

Ian Meopham, west sector ranger for the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, recently spoke to the BBC about the area around St Justinian's.

"Seals can be found all year round, but autumn provides an opportunity to view grey seal pups. At low water, porpoises can be seen," he explained.

The walk will also provide an opportunity to see coastal flowers such as kidney vetch, sea campion and squill.

For more information on this event, visit the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park website.
