Teens Can Improve Writing Skills in the Park This Summer

Atlanta book publisher offers a 4-hour summer writing workshop in fiction, screenwriting and poetry for youth ages 12-19. Teens will learn writing conventions against the backdrop of the granite ecosystem and forest trails at Arabia Mountain Park.

2013-05-24
ATLANTA, GA, May 24, 2013 (Press-News.org) What do you get when you combine teens, writing and the rugged outdoors? An unforgettable summer experience.

Allwrite Advertising & Publishing, Atlanta's conventional book publisher, is offering an intensive 4-hour summer writing workshop in fiction, screenwriting and poetry for youth ages 12 to 19. Teens will have the opportunity to learn the conventions of writing against the backdrop of the granite ecosystem and forest trails at the serene and inspiring Arabia Mountain Park.

"Arabia Mountain Park provides a unique setting for writers to really hone in and sharpen their writing skills," Annette Johnson, president of Allwrite, says. "The peaceful scenery relaxes writers as they explore everything from the diverse landscape to the historic sites for inspiration."

Students will receive feedback and critiques of their work with possible opportunities for future publication.

Dates: June 19-20 (fiction - two days); June 24 (screenwriting); and June 27 (poetry).

Time: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. with a 30 min. break for lunch

Location:
Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve

3787 Klondike Road
Lithonia, GA 30038

For information and registration visit: http://allwritepublishing.com/index.php?pg=writing-summer

Students will be able to explore the creative writing process and gain insights, tools and techniques from one of Atlanta's leading publishing companies. The workshops are open to all students, regardless if they're already a skilled writer or if writing is a struggle for them. Every student, especially those with publishing aspirations, can develop the tools to become more competent, confident writers. Maybe it won't be the next great novel, but the student will develop the motivation to write independently and the comfort to write with more ease outside of the classroom.

"We couldn't have picked a better location for this year's workshops," says Johnson.
Workshops include:

Fiction in the Forest -- Learn how to craft rich fiction in our two-day workshop. You will learn how to form a comprehensive plot structure, how to draw detailed characters, and various exercises that will keep your pen flowing. Students who come with completed work will get full written critiques on their work.

Poetry in the Park -- What better way to get the muse flowing than to enjoy an outdoors poetry writing session? Come and take inspiration from the scenery of the park as our instructor guides you through various writing exercises to help you craft beautiful poetry.

Screenwriting for Novices -- This course is open to all students interested in beginning screenwriting. They will learn the basics of act structure and how to work with tension in a script. Students who come with completed work will get full written critiques on their work.
