Fuentek President On Panel For White House Lab-To-Market Cross-Agency Summit

Laura Schoppe Provides Expertise On Developing Better Return On Federally Funded Research and Development

2013-05-24
WASHINGTON, DC, May 24, 2013 (Press-News.org) Fuentek, LLC (http://www.fuentek.com/), a consulting firm based in Apex, N.C. that provides intellectual property (IP) and technology transfer services, has announced that Laura Schoppe, president, served as an external expert panelist for the Lab-to-Market Cross-Agency Summit. Sponsored by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the summit took place on May 20. As an expert in innovation and commercialization, Schoppe was asked to provide feedback on enhancing lab-to-market programs for the benefit of the public. The federal government invests over $140 billion in research and development annually—through research institution grants, small business contracts, and civil servant research efforts—and OSTP convened the panel to help maximize the return on investment for the US taxpayer. The summit allowed experts and federal lab staff to explore current programs and discuss challenges as well as potential solutions.

Along with other experts from industry, academia and the finance sector, Schoppe discussed ways to leverage synergistic missions between federal agencies, align federal research activities with economic development needs, as well as more efficiently and effectively bring research innovations to the market.

The all-day summit, which was held at the White House Conference Center, resulted in a list of recommendations that will be documented in a memo to the President.

QUOTES:
"Our candid discussions with the federal agencies having to implement the White House's future policies and recommendations were very productive and encouraging," said Schoppe. "I feel privileged to have been included on such a panel of experts and look forward to seeing continued improvements in how federal labs bring value to the economy."
