NATIONAL CITY, CA, June 03, 2013 (Press-News.org) National City offers a full calendar of events and activities for visitors and locals to enjoy during June, July and August.

"Visitors from all over the world come to San Diego during the summer, but not everyone knows about fun, free activities and events that we have happening in National City," said Jacqueline L. Reynoso, president and CEO of the National City Chamber of Commerce. "National City hosts several annual events as well as ongoing activities that will delight visitors and give them a taste of the culture of the South Bay."

Highlights of events and activities include:

Summer Movies in the Park Series
National City will kick off its summer Movies in the Park series with a showing of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" June 14 at Las Palmas Park. The series will continue with a movie on the second Friday of the month through September. As part of the San Diego Movies in the Park Series, each free movie event includes pre-show entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. with the feature presentation starting at dusk. All screenings are open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring their own folding chair, blanket and refreshments. Annual Fourth of July Carnival
National City and the National City Host Lions Club will host the annual Fourth of July Carnival at Kimball Park from July 3 through July 7. With a history dating back more than 60 years, the carnival will feature games, rides, food and drink items for sale by local nonprofit organizations, and various entertainment throughout the week including musical acts and contests. 22nd Annual Automobile Heritage Day
On August 4, the 22nd Annual Automobile Heritage Day show will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Kimball Park. This year, the show will be highlighting the Corvette, and all Corvette entries into the competition are free. The event is free to attend for those not entering the contest. There will be over 200 entrants, an impressive display of automobile classics, and a variety of music to listen and dance to. Car show winners will be selected through a competitive ranking system by experienced car judges and trophies will be awarded for each vehicle class. Picnic in Pepper Park
Named after National City businessman and civic leader Leonard Pepper, this 5.5-acre park has extensive picnic areas, a busy boat launching ramp and a picturesque pier. Pepper Park is a family friendly environment with a fishing pier, several barbecue pits and a sand-filled playground. Pack a picnic basket and enjoy the outdoors at National City's only shoreline park.

Bike the Bayshore Bikeway
The Bayshore Bikeway is a 24-mile bicycle path around the San Diego Bay. The bikeway runs through five of the Port of San Diego's member cities: San Diego, National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and Coronado. The route for the Bayshore Bikeway begins near the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier in San Diego and ends at the Coronado Ferry Landing in Coronado and travels on Harbor Drive in National City. Visit One of the Free Museums
There are several free museums in National City to visit and learn about the rich history of San Diego and National City, including the Frank Kimball House, Santa Fe Depot and the Stein Family Farm.

Located in Brick Row, the Frank Kimball Museum gives guests the chance to learn about the history of National City and tour Frank Kimball's residence that is full of original artifacts and furniture owned by him.

The Santa Fe Rail Depot is the only original transcontinental railroad terminus still standing. The restored depot serves as a railroad museum for tours and is also a popular community-meeting place.
