The event was co-hosted by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce with the intent of fostering economic growth, particularly among the Latino community.
The day-long summit drew members of the Hispanic community from Fortune 500 companies, professional firms and high-growth entrepreneurs into an interactive discussion on improving collaboration between the government and Hispanic business leaders. In opening remarks, Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, noted the important role the Latino community plays in the nation's economic recovery and future growth "To compete in today's economy, we must draw from the talents, perspectives, and leadership of every community in our country."
Presentations were made by Treasury Secretary Jacob L. Lew on the economy, Cecilia Munoz, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, on the new health care law and Todd Park, U.S. Chief Technology Officer, on open data initiatives. The Summit is the beginning of an ongoing conversation between the White House and Hispanic leaders focused on growing the contribution of the over three million Hispanic businesses in the U.S.
For two consecutive years, Houston attorney Benny Agosto, Jr. has been recognized by Latino Leaders Magazine as one of the 101 Most Influential Leaders in the United States.
