RALEIGH, NC, November 03, 2010 (Press-News.org) For the sixth straight year, the Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter 105 of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) used proceeds from its President¡¦s Cup Challenge Golf Tournament to sponsor Urban Ministries of Wake County. The annual golf event, held on October 6th at the Crooked Creek Golf Course in Fuquay-Varina, garnered $1,500 for the local non-profit service organization.
Urban Ministries of Wake County alleviates the effects of poverty in Wake County by meeting people¡¦s basic needs for food, shelter, and healthcare, providing services that promote self-sufficiency and building awareness of the issues of poverty within the larger community by leveraging financial support with volunteers and in-kind contributions. According to the organization¡¦s website, in the past year alone, 23,000 people were served by Urban Ministries of Wake County, 52,000 prescriptions were filled, 8,290 families received food assistance, and 300 women received shelter. Anne Burke, Executive Director of Urban Ministries of Wake County, says that given the current economic climate, donations from groups like IREM are appreciated more than ever.
¡§Urban Ministries touches the lives of more than 23,000 people in Wake County every year by providing basic needs such as food, shelter and health care to people in need,¡¨ says Burke. ¡§Thanks to IREM and the support we have received from this caring organization for the past six years, we are able to make life better for men, women and children in our own community.¡¨
IREM Immediate Past President, Tracey Johnson CPM„ , says that he¡¦s proud to be able to continue supporting the good works and contributions made by Urban Ministries of Wake County. Johnson said that given the current difficulty for community organizations to raise funds this year, his association made extra efforts to draw people to its golf event.
¡§Because Urban Ministries of Wake County has such a positive impact on so many families in our area, our Chapter and Golf Committee leaders took every opportunity to attract sponsors and raise as much money as possible for this organization,¡¨ says Johnson. ¡§I¡¦d like to personally recognize this year¡¦s event chair, Jason Stowe, and his entire committee for working so diligently. Despite the continued economic difficulties experienced by everyone, we were able to increase our donation to Urban Ministries from last year. Thank you to everyone who came out and allowed us to make such a commendable donation.¡¨
