2013-06-13
RALEIGH, NC, June 13, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Chef's Academy (http://www.thechefsacademy.com), the Culinary Division of Harrison College, a 110-year-old, nationally accredited institution that offers more than 40 degree programs in five schools of study, has announced that the institution is the recipient of the community service award from the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU). APSCU operates as a voluntary membership organization that provides educational programs for private education institutions. With more than 200 schools evaluated, The Chef's Academy received the organization's community service award for its outstanding commitment to advancing its local community efforts. Additionally, APSCU recognized institutions in the following categories: Hall of Fame, Educator of the Year, Employer of the Year, and Most Innovative Best Practice.

The APSCU Community Service Award follows the school's recent recognition as the 2013 President's Higher Education Honor Roll Award by the Corporation of National and Community Service. Deeply engrained in the local community, The Chef's Academy is committed advancing the local food economy, addressing local hunger and assisting families and educators in teaching local youth about health, wellness and smart lifestyle choices. Having partnered with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina since 2011, The Chef's Academy has raised nearly 200,000 meals for local families in need.

Additionally, the students and chefs of The Chef's Academy have partnered with local elementary schools to launch a wellness campaign. The campaign places an emphasis on educating local youth on the importance of leading a healthy life and integrating all aspects of wellness, including diet and exercise, to help children start making smart lifestyle choices at an early age.

QUOTES:
"We are truly honored and humbled as an organization to be recognized by the APSCU for our ongoing commitment to serving the local community through our own individual talents and skill sets," said Jeffrey Bane, campus president and national dean of The Chef's Academy. "As important as educating our students is, it is equally important that we demonstrate how to give back and enhance the local community in which we live and serve, as we fully understand that contributing to society is the only way to improve overall quality of life and life for generations to come."
