AUSTIN, TX, June 13, 2013 (Press-News.org) Attorney Frederick W. Sultan IV, a partner in the Austin office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, recently was honored by the Austin Bar Association with the Outstanding Director Award for the 2012-2013 Bar Year at the group's Annual Board Reception. The event was co-hosted by the Austin Young Lawyers Association.
Mr. Sultan is a member of the Austin Bar's Diversity Committee and co-founder and inaugural director of the Austin LGBT Bar Association. He received the honor on May 29, 2013, recognizing his outstanding leadership in advocating for diversity in the legal profession.
As part of his work with the committee, Mr. Sultan assists with the evaluation of diversity-based scholarship candidates for summer fellowships and clerkships. In his director role, Mr. Sultan promotes the tenets of the Austin LGBT Bar Association, including educating people on issues relating to LGBT law and working to raise the profile and acceptance of LGBT individuals within the legal community. As a result of Mr. Sultan's efforts, LGBT data was collected for the first time in conjunction with the Austin Law Firm Diversity Report Card, and was released publicly in May.
As a member of the Gardere Trial Practice Group, Mr. Sultan represents clients nationwide in commercial litigation involving business torts, breach of contract, breach of warranty, employment, trade secrets, construction disputes, probate law, real property claims and securities matters. He also is well-versed in arbitration and appeals. Mr. Sultan's clients span a variety of industries, including energy, finance, health care, hospitality, manufacturing and technology.
Mr. Sultan earned his undergraduate degree from Rice University after graduating from The University of Texas School of Law. He is a member of the Austin Bar Association's Civil Appellate, Civil Litigation, and Labor and Employment Sections.
