Top NYC Mount Sinai Hospital-Affiliated Gastroenterology Practice Opens Westchester County Office

New York Gastroenterology Associates (NYGA), one of the top gastroenterology practices in Manhattan, has opened a new office at Two Overhill Road in Scarsdale, NY.

2013-06-22
SCARSDALE, NY, June 22, 2013 (Press-News.org) New York Gastroenterology Associates (NYGA), one of the top gastroenterology practices in Manhattan, has opened a new office at Two Overhill Road in Scarsdale, NY. NYGA's Mt. Sinai Hospital-affiliated gastroenterologists and internationally-recognized pathologists will offer the residents of Westchester County and the surrounding areas cutting-edge, quality care combined with convenient, easy scheduling and the low-stress experience that comes with personal concierge-level service. In addition, the new practice will offer Westchester residents the benefits of NYGA's pathology lab located in the New York City office so that all patients receive results within 24 hours.

"As someone born, raised and living in Westchester -- I'm excited that now we are able to offer this unique level of care to Westchester residents -- progressive, quality service combined with our concierge approach to patient care," said Dr. Neville Bamji, who will be heading up the Scarsdale office of New York Gastroenterology Associates.

"Dr. Sakaria, who will be seeing patients in Scarsdale as well, and I both live here in Westchester with our families and wanted to bring our style of patient care to our friends and neighbors,"
he continued. "We're excited to provide everyone here with the opportunity to have colonoscopies and other gastroenterological services that feature a completely new level of service and care."

NYGA continuously develops and evaluates methods to improve the patient's experience with colonoscopies, upper endoscopies and other GI procedures like video capsule endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and Bravo pH monitoring.

Endoscopic procedures are performed at NYGA's state-of the-art ambulatory endoscopy center, Yorkville Endoscopy, conveniently located at 79th Street and Second Avenue on Manhattan's Upper East Side. This facility was designed by prominent New York City architect Martin Rich, who is the author of the leading text on endoscopy facility design. The 5,000 square foot office combines privacy with close attention to every aspect of medical safety and effectiveness, including all features comparable to those available in any hospital.

Unlike most gastroenterology groups, NYGA offers an on-site pathology laboratory and an on-site pathologist. This enables patients to get their results faster (often within 24 hours), and allows for close cross-disciplinary communication between the team of gastroenterologists and the pathologist.

"Each of our gastroenterologists has performed more than 10,000 colonoscopies, with polyp detection rates that consistently come in significantly above the national average," said Dr. Bamji.

Patients at NYGA's Westchester County facility in Scarsdale will be seen by Dr. Neville Bamji and Dr. Savreet Sarkaria. Both have presented their extensive research findings within the United States and abroad.

Dr. Bamji is a clinical instructor of medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital. He received his undergraduate degree in 1998 from Johns Hopkins University and his MD in 2002 from Cornell University Medical College. He subsequently completed internship and residency training in
Internal Medicine in 2005 at the New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Campus and
then went on to complete his fellowship in gastroenterology in 2008 at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Campus. His research interests include colorectal cancer screening and wireless capsule endoscopy.

Dr. Sarkaria graduated from The Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann Medical College and completed her medical residency at Temple University Medical Center. She then completed her gastroenterology fellowship, followed by a fellowship in advanced endoscopic procedures at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Upon completion of her training, she spent eight years practicing gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy at New York Presbyterian Hospital- Cornell, where she pursued her clinical and research interests in screening for gastrointestinal malignancies, colon cancer screening, disorders of the gallbladder and pancreas, Women's Digestive Health, and diarrhea including post-infectious diarrhea and probiotic use.

Says Dr. Sarkaria: "Westchester has nearly half a million people over the age of 45, many of whom are uneasy about the idea of a colonoscopy. We're here to make the experience more efficient, more convenient and less stressful."
