ATLANTA, GA, June 22, 2013 (Press-News.org) Energy costs for a hospital are a large expense item for any hospital and a prime source of budget savings. One hospital that has been focused on reducing energy costs since 2005, is Children's Hospital Central California in Madera, California. Children's Hospital Central California is a not-for-profit, state-of-the-art children's hospital with 348 beds and a medical staff of more than 525 physicians. Children's is the second-largest children's hospital in California and one of the 10 largest hospitals of its type in the nation. The hospital recently completed a successful energy efficient lighting retrofit program with LED Tube lighting from RedBird LED. RedBird LED is an Atlanta based LED Tube light manufacturer of high quality-high performance lighting products.
To reach their energy savings goals, the hospital knew that selecting the right energy efficient lighting would be important. They contacted RedBird LED to learn how they could maximize their energy and maintenance cost reductions. RedBird recommended retrofitted their existing lighting to more energy efficient LED Tube lighting. Today, the facility saves more energy and operates more efficiently than 93 percent of all U.S. hospitals. "Two of the energy-saving measures we've implemented account for most of our improved efficiency," said Neil Pearson- Director of Engineering. "Replacing constant-speed motor drives with variable-speed drives cuts energy use, but the greatest improvement came from retrofitting lighting to LED technology."
The hospital selected RedBird LED Cardinal L4-18W-41K-132, four foot 18 watt LED tubes at 4100K CCT, with a measured efficacy of 110 lms/watt and a CRI of 82.2. They provide one of the highest lumens/dollar and lumens/watt of any LED lighting fixture. Cardinal LED 4' Linear Replacement Lamps are available in both 18 and 22 watt versions at an assortment of popular color temperatures. The 18 watt linear replacement lamp is the most popular model used for one to one fluorescent lighting retrofits of standard 32 watt T8 or 40 watt T12 fluorescent lamps.
Cardinal LED Linear products are UL listed as both a Luminair-Conversion-Retrofit-Product and as a Recognized Component Product ensuring that when installed as directed all UL compliance for the fixture is preserved. Installed efficacy (the ratio of light-output to power consumed when installed in real world fixtures) has been measured at _110 lumens/watt making them some of the most energy efficient LED lighting products available today.
Cardinal Linear Lights have been qualified by the DesignLights Consortium (DLC) making them eligible for many utility rebate programs in the US and Canada. The RedBird Cardinal LED Tube Light was awarded the 2012 Progress Report Selection by the Illuminating Engineering Society for, "Unique and significant advancement in the art and science of lighting".
