Structura Announces Winners of Tree Giveaway Contest

Local engineering firm Structura is commemorating its 25th anniversary by working with TREE-MENDOUS Maryland to donate and plant 25 trees in Rockville and Baltimore.

2013-06-22
ROCKVILLE, MD, June 22, 2013 (Press-News.org) Two locations in Baltimore and Rockville will receive a total of 25 trees as winners of structural engineering firm Structura's TREEMENDOUS 25th anniversary celebration social media contest. The winning locations were selected from a list of sites submitted via the firm's Facebook page and include:

• Baltimore - Jonhston Square
Mi Casa is currently restoring 30 historic row homes in the working class neighborhood of Johnston Square in historic East Baltimore as part of a home-ownership and redevelopment project. The neighborhood is currently on its way to recovery, and greening the community is a part of restoring its health. In addition to the redevelopment of the row homes, Mi Casa also plans to beautify the vacant lot on the corner of Greenmount Ave and Preston Street with the addition of several trees.

• Rockville - Watts Branch Parkway
In June of 2012, Rockville was impacted by a freak derecho, a kind of fast-moving, large, and violent thunderstorm, which delivered extensive damage and downed hundreds of trees. An area located on Watts Branch Parkway was seriously affected by the derecho and is in great need of new trees.

"Through the donation of trees to sites in both locations, we are celebrating Structura's existing roots in Rockville while literally and figuratively planting roots in Baltimore—and giving back to both communities in the process," says Structura founder and principal Jeffrey Overmiller. "We look forward to working with both of these deserving locations "

With the help of TREE-MENDOUS Maryland and other volunteers, Structura plans to plant a total of 25 trees at these sites. Structura is currently working with the contacts at each of the locations and TREEMENDOUS Maryland on tree planting dates and times.

For updates on the tree plantings, including information about how you can get involved, like Structura on Facebook or join our email list.
