NEW YORK, NY, March 02, 2014 (Press-News.org) Block O'Toole & Murphy, LLP, a pre-eminent personal injury law firm in New York City, announces the release of its latest newsletter. The publication, Trial by Jury, highlights staff achievements, verdicts and settlements, charitable work, and awards. The firm represents serious injury victims and has recovered more than $700 million for injured clients.
Charitable Work
The charitable work undertaken by the firm is an important feature of the newsletter. Partner Stephen Murphy noted, 'Our firm's charitable work, as well as our courtroom successes on behalf of our seriously injured clients, all come from the same place - our unwavering belief in hard work, dedication and truly caring for those in need.'
This work takes many forms. As reported in the newsletter, the firm hosts an annual wine tasting event for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital that draws more than 500 guests per year and has raised nearly $1 million for the charity in just the last two years alone. Another example is the firm's response to Super Storm Sandy. The firm donated money, clothing and supplies. In addition, individual firm members worked in the hard hit neighborhood of Breezy Point removing debris from devastated homes.
Verdicts and Settlements
The newsletter also reflects Block O'Toole & Murphy's place as a top personal injury law firm in New York. It reports that Block O'Toole & Murphy returned more multi-million dollar personal injury verdicts and settlements than any other firm in New York in both 2012 and 2013, according to reports in New York Magazine and The New York Law Journal. The newsletter also announced recent case results such as the $22,500,000 settlement obtained by partner Daniel O'Toole in a negligent highway maintenance case against the State of New York, the largest reported settlement in the State for the year 2013; the $6.8 million jury verdict obtained by partners Jeffrey Block and Joseph Donahue for a union laborer impaled by uncapped rebar on a construction project; and the $4 million settlement procured by partner Stephen Murphy on behalf of a "Good Samaritan" who was injured while trying to rescue a truck driver stuck on a railroad crossing. Results such as these have led to numerous local and national awards and recognition for the firm's partners that are documented in the newsletter.
Attorneys and Staff
The newsletter also announces recent internal developments at the firm, including the naming of two new partners - David Scher and Joseph Donahue - and the addition of new associate Michael Hurwitz and of counsel attorney George Freitag.
