PISMO BEACH, CA, March 01, 2014 (Press-News.org) A unique Pismo Beach experience is being celebrated with a rare shipment of Alaskan Red King Crab from the waters off the coast of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. This year, only one United States outlet was chosen to be the recipient this rare seafood delicacy, the Cracked Crab in Pismo Beach. Because of Owner Mike Lee and Chef Mike McGourty's long-term loyalty to the fisherman and crews of Dutch Harbor, the plant chose to select them as the sole recipient in the United States to receive the most prized species of crab in the world.
Dutch Harbor was featured in the popular Reality Show The Deadliest Catch and Mike Lee (owner of the Cracked Crab) traveled to Alaska to meet the captain and crew of Artic Sea, set crab pots, pull them in and see how they processed the delicious crab to make it to California tasting as fresh as the day it was caught.
"The crab's freshness is enhanced by a program called 'Total Tractability,'" said Lee, "each huge crustacean comes with a date and time it was pulled from the depths of the Bearing Sea. It is then sent overnight to Pismo Beach and served by the pound, when in season."
The arrival of the rarest crab in the land will be celebrated in the sphere of a public campaign during the months of February - June 2014. Customers from around the state are invited to partake in the "Get Crabby in Pismo Beach" package starting at $189. This package includes a night at the luxurious Cliff's Resort in Pismo Beach, wine tasting at Tolosa Winery and then culminating with the best meal of their lives; a bucket of Alaskan Red King Crab at the Cracked Crab. This house specialty consists of a big bucket of shellfish expertly prepared and casually dumped on your paper-covered table with sausage, potatoes, corn, and all the tools needed to crack crab!
Most of the whole crabs are big enough to serve 4-6 people and you can buy by the pound or order a whole 6-8 pound beauty. This infusion of fresh crab will continue until June. "We choose this Harbor to buy our crab from because of its sustainable fishing program. They throw back all the females and even go so far to paint the inside hull blue to sooth the crabs."
For "Get Crabby in Pismo Beach" packages, Call for reservations at 800-826-7827. This one of a kind package is only available through June, or while the crab lasts!
