Upstate Wine Company Seeks to Promote Homegrown

Local Food Drives Logical Next Step - Local Wine

ITHACA, NY, November 13, 2010

The push to eat locally is becoming increasingly popular, and some would argue, essential. The local food movement is being met with much enthusiasm, as many
organizations across the country now offer local chapters, events, and on-going educational
programs to anyone interested in building self-reliant food systems, supporting local
economies, and eating fresh and seasonal foods.

Seeing a disparity between many locally-sourced restaurants' menus and their wine
lists, entrepreneur Kevin Faehndrich saw the need to offer world class local wines to New
York City, and founded Upstate Wine Company in early 2010. Upstate Wine Company
has since answered the need for many New York City restaurants and wine shops looking
to offer quality local wines. Clients served include Blue Hill, Terroir Tribeca, Cookshop,
DBGB Kitchen & Bar, NY Vintners, Brooklyn Wine Exchange, Hundred Acres, Il Buco,
and Wallse, to name just a handful. Faehndrich, once an assistant winemaker in the Finger
Lakes region of New York, is committed to offering only the highest quality wines from
small, family owned operations. And though Upstate Wine Co. is committed to
sustainability, the company is first and foremost about the wine. "If we're not offering a
world-class wine, they [restaurants] are not going to carry it. Patrons have to love it so they
will order it again," explains Faehndrich.

In New York City, organizations including Pride of New York, Greenmarket
Farmers Markets, and Community Supported Agriculture groups have taken a firm hold.
Greenmarket has been around for over 30 years, but its recent popularity has surged with
the desire to procure fresh, local, and healthy foods. And the drive to eat locally is quickly
being followed by a commitment to drink locally. With the world-class Finger Lakes wine
region just hours from New York City, drinking locally is an enticing, rewarding, and
sustainable option.

Upstate Wine Company operates out of Ithaca, New York, with sales people in New York
City. If you are interested in carrying Finger Lakes wines at your establishment or would
