RALEIGH, NC, November 19, 2010 (Press-News.org) The Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine (www.carolinacenter.com) continues its ongoing wellness presentation series by hosting "Beat the Flu and Stay Healthy: An Insightful, Provocative Discussion of Flu Shots, Mercury, and Your Health" on Tuesday, November 23rd from 7-8:00PM. This free presentation will be held at CCIM's office at 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111 in Raleigh and will be presented by CCIM Medical Director John Pittman, MD. Individuals who attend will be able to get a flu shot immediately following the presentation at a $10 discount.
According to studies, an individual's chance of getting quite sick with influenza is 10% to 20% each year. A flu shot can reduce the risk of severe illness by 70% to 90%. Immunizing children is among the more powerful ways to reduce the effect of influenza on entire families and communities. Unfortunately, flu vaccines are preserved with a mercury-containing substance called Thimerosal.
"Standard flu shots will add substantially to the body's own mercury burden, which in turn will tend to weaken the immune and nervous systems over time," explains Dr. Pittman. "Fortunately, there is a Thimerosal-free flu shot alternative."
In a recent scientific report titled "Mercury exposure and children's health," which was published in the September 2010 issue of Current Problems in Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care, authors of the report conclude: "Mercury is a highly toxic element; there is no known safe level of exposure. Ideally, neither children nor adults should have any mercury in their bodies because it provides no physiological benefit...Mercury exposure can cause acute and chronic intoxication at low levels of exposure...Mercury is a global pollutant, bio-accumulating, mainly through the aquatic food chain, resulting in a serious health hazard for children." The report goes into detail on the various ways that low-level exposure to mercury can damage the human brain, nervous system, kidneys and immune system.
Each year, the Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine has a limited supply of Thimerosal-free flu vaccines. These vaccines are available to the general public at a cost of $54.00. "With so much documented data on the negative effects that mercury has on the human body, it has always been my widely held professional opinion that mercury-free flu vaccines should be the norm," adds Dr. Pittman.
During his 60-minute presentation, Dr. Pittman will discuss ways to prevent and control the flu and how to lower your body's mercury burden while bolstering your health and vitality. Seating for this presentation is limited and advanced registration is required in case of cancellation. To reserve your seat, contact The Carolina Center at (919) 571-4391 or register via e-mail to register@carolinacenter.com. To schedule an appointment for a Thimerosal-free flu shot, call (919) 571-4391.
