WESTON, FL, January 06, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Sagemont School, a college prep private school located in Broward County, Florida, has always been actively involved in community service projects. Their most recent project was raising money for a soccer field at Children's Harbor. Children's Harbor is a non-profit agency that provides residential services for foster children in a family-style setting. They also provide community based services for the prevention and intervention of child abuse and neglect. When the Pembroke Pines agency was unable to complete its new soccer field due to lack of funds, Sagemont students decided to lend a helping hand.
Sagemont's elementary school students hosted a Healthy Kids/Healthy Bodies event which featured an all school workout DVD, an all school healthy recipe cookbook, demonstrations on healthy cooking, a Hip Hop Kidz dance presentation and the sale of hand painted natural fiber grocery bags. Media and Technology specialist Doris Quintero, co-producer of the event, explained "Once the children understood why we were holding this event and what we were raising money for, they were excited to get to work. The students learned age-appropriate exercises to include in the DVD. The teachers created a cookbook that contained healthy recipes for their students to enjoy. Then we hosted an on campus family night where the two items were sold as a package to help the cause."
Ninth grader, Daniel Cardamone, was the mastermind behind the idea of building the soccer field. His family is very involved with Children's Harbor. Daniel wanted the children to share in the joy of playing soccer and other games as he has experienced on a daily basis. To date, Cardamone has distributed over 7,000 fundraising flyers, contacted major corporations, and obtained commitment from developer Ron Bergeron to clear the land. Cardamone has also been busy meeting with building inspectors, sign, towing and irrigation companies and engaged the expertise of soccer design personnel from the city of Pembroke Pines.
Sagemont's physical education coach, Michael Crisona said, "This project made so much sense since our students are involved in leading active lifestyles and participating in sports. The kids naturally wanted to share with those who are less fortunate." Sagemont raised over $3,000 and Children's Harbor hopes to complete the soccer field by the end of 2011.
The Sagemont School offers a college prep curriculum and operates two campuses in Weston, Fl. In Prekindergarten through Grade 5, The Sagemont School provides core concepts in a creative environment combined with weekly specials that include science, art, music, Spanish for non-native & native speakers, swimming, PE and media and technology. From middle school through graduation, Sagemont students choose from a variety of regular, honors and AP course work. In addition, students share in a networked wireless laptop environment and participate in a comprehensive guidance program for college entrance. 2011-01-06
The ink is formulated to permit use as a first-down white for subsequent over-printing by letterpress and litho as well as screen inks or varnishes.
"White inks for screen printing normally include silicone compounds to enhance ink flow out and surface evenness," says Technical Manager, Chris Price. "However, silicon additives often make it difficult to over-print with other processes such as letterpress, litho, flexography or varnishes.
