Employers Keen not to Bypass School-leavers during Recruitment Process

Online recruitment specialist, Recruitment Genius, believes major employers across the country are beginning to realise they will have to change their recruitment processes in response to the rise in university tuition fees.

2011-01-07
SEVENOAKS, KENT, ENGLAND, January 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) Online recruitment specialist, Recruitment Genius, believes major employers across the country are beginning to realise they will have to change their recruitment processes in response to the rise in university tuition fees.

Accountancy giant Deloitte announced this week that it plans to focus more of its recruitment efforts on school-leavers, as well as the university graduates who would usually get the pick of the jobs at Deloitte.

From September 2011, the firm said it will take on 100 school-leavers, with a minimum of three Bs at A Level, each year to ensure it does not overlook the bright candidates who are put off university by the GBP9,000-a-year fees.

Geoff Newman, chief executive of Recruitment Genius commented "businesses are examining their recruitment processes and responding to the changes that will occur as a result of the hike in fees. For example, graduates may begin to command larger salaries in order to help them pay off the extra GBP27,000 of debt they are likely to have accumulated."

However, despite Deloitte's new efforts to recruit school-leavers, it is worth bearing in mind that it employs 1,100 graduates each year, far exceeding the number of A Level students it will take on. This demonstrates that university degrees are likely to continue to hold kudos with employers.
