New Math Software Ties Math Practice With Social Networking To Boost Kids Motivation For Math Work

MathLanders A+ engages students around the world in ongoing free daily and weekly online math competitions. Additional online features are set to take advantage of the general social networking addiction, to motivate kids for massive math practice.

Social networks are immensely popular because they feed the users with a few basic but very important needs. Not even social insuccess and difficulties will push users away from these networks. It is thus possible to offer individuals participation within a social network and ask for something in exchange that they would not do otherwise. That's exactly what MathLanders does.

MathLanders enforces sustained math practice by capitalizing on children innate inclination towards online peer competition and acquiring a reputable position in the social hierarchy. The software provides the social network elements and hook kids on math in the process. However, the extent of social interaction is proportional with the amount of math work performed, measured in points earned, which is yet another way to establish individual positions in the social hierarchy.

The developers plan to extend MathLanders' online capabilities in future releases. New math social networking elements will focus towards implementation of joint projects between MathLanders members, where individual contributions to common projects will be based on the amount of math work performed by each student. Proposed common projects still leave room for competition by creation of internal hierarchies between players, based on point rankings, within a given project.
