CHICAGO, IL, April 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) On May 9-11, 2011, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) will host the third Social Media the Internet and Law Enforcement (SMILE) Conference at Chicago Police Headquarters to discuss the use of social media to improve law enforcement, crime prevention and officer safety.
The SMILE Conference brings together a widely respected group of law enforcement professionals, public information officers and neighborhood watch members to help add another vital weapon to their arsenal- social media. Additionally, SMILE attendees will receive the latest information and methodology relating to such important issues as cyber bullying, cyber safety, privacy and officer safety.
"The Chicago Police Department is hosting the SMILE Conference to help our law enforcement partners build upon their skill set and enhance their expertise, by sharing best practices with peers," said Interim Superintendent Terry G. Hillard.
"Social media is becoming a crucial component in law enforcement investigations and outreach. The issues brought to the table by the SMILE Conference will play a vital role as law enforcement agencies worldwide commit to leverage the advantages of Social Media, and to learn of the risks of misuse," Hillard added.

The key speaker lineup and international panel of experts will lead attendees through three days of in-depth social media and Internet education specific to the law enforcement professional. The Focus of the second day of the conference is officer safety online, including use of Facebook, social engineering, mobile video and geolocation threats to officers' safety.

Lexis Nexis Investigator's Network and Nixle will host lunch workshops on Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10.
A town hall meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. It will provide everyone with an opportunity to further explore and discuss at length issues concerning social media and law enforcement that could not be fully addressed during the plenary session. The town hall will be highly spirited, interactive and wrapped in a social media context.
