MINNEAPOLIS, MN, April 24, 2011 (Press-News.org) Registration for the 2011 summer camps at Textile Center is now open for kids 6 to 16 years old. Summer camps begin July 8 and run through August 26, with more than 30 different camp options varying in session length.
Textile Center day camps combine sewing, painting, silk screening and other textile related arts to engage kids. Many of the camps also involve dying fabric, which takes place in the state-of-the-art dye lab. Campers create a variety of projects, including quilts, original clothing pieces, jewelry, pajamas, messenger bags and much more during the summer programs.
"Kids have a lot of creative freedom in our summer camps," said Becka Rahn, education manager. "They're not just cookie cutter projects where everyone is making the same thing."
There are no prerequisites for the summer camps. Kids have fun through the entire process of learning how to use a sewing machine and work with a pattern, in addition to completing projects they can take home.
Camp class sizes are small, with no more than 12 students at a time and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For camp details, prices and to register, visit Textile Center online at http://www.textilecentermn.org/summercamp.asp or by calling (612) 436-0464.
