World Progress Report with Joan Lunden Highlights New Breakthroughs to Combat Heart Disease

World Progress Report focuses on treating heart disease in public television program.

BOCA RATON, FL, September 17, 2010

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S., responsible for 40 percent of deaths.

The Senior Producer of World Progress Report stated that, "Many people do not realize that heart disease is responsible for more deaths each year than all forms of cancer."

Heart disease is a term used to describe conditions affecting the heart, including but not limited to: coronary heart disease, heart attack, congestive heart failure, and congenital heart disease. Fortunately, many forms of heart disease can be prevented or treated with healthy lifestyle choices and diet and exercise.

A healthy lifestyle and diet are critical elements in this fight. World Progress Report is launching a new Public Television series on heart disease that will help viewers recognize the signs of heart disease, while giving them the information they need to prevent and treat it. It is important to understand the causes and risks of heart disease so that people can adjust their lifestyle accordingly.

MayoClinic.com also encourages patients that, "In addition to healthy lifestyle changes, remember the importance of regular medical checkups. Early detection and treatment can set the stage for a lifetime of better heart health."

World Progress Report will be covering these important topics and many more.
