New Edmonton Secret Agent Day Camp Promotes Inclusive Environment for all Abilities

EDMONTON, AB, CANADA, June 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) "If you want change, ask for it," is Edmonton author Alison Neuman's motto as she organizes Camp Mission Access, a secret agent themed day camp for children ages 8-12 with and without a disability. Such camps are rare and need more locations. Already Alison has had interest from some Canadian and US cities to host more Camp Mission Accesses next summer. On August 4 & 5 and 8 & 9, 2011, in collaboration with The Glenrose School in Edmonton Alberta, Camp Mission Access will present workshops encouraging creative expression and great fun for all children.

"The time has come to stop defining children and provide them an inclusive place to have fun, explore and just be who they are. At Camp Mission Access, each secret agent-in-training will complete four missions through writing, inclusive activities, games, and dance. Each child will have an opportunity to be in a nurturing inclusive environment where he/she will be able to have fun and not be labelled within a category. To be in a positive environment where every participant will be able to explore their abilities and leave the camp valued and respected is one of our goals," says Neuman- who has also had a personal disability journey that inspired the project.

Camp Mission Access is thrilled to have iDANCE Edmonton presenting workshops each day of the day camp. iDANCE Edmonton encourages accessibility in dance for all abilities. Their accolades include a nomination for the 2011 "Telus Courage to Innovate" award at the City of Edmonton Mayor's Arts Awards, and they were awarded the 2009 John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights award for New/Emerging Organization.
