Shipping Freight in the Electronic Era - Just a Click of the Mouse and Freight Shipping is Arranged

Shipping freight has, traditionally, been a cumbersome task involving a complex web of parternships and a lot of waste due to 'middle-men'. Times are changing, , as the electronic era ushers in new methods for shipping.

2010-09-26
HOUSTON, TX, September 26, 2010 (Press-News.org) For individuals or businesses - shipping freight can be a time consuming and cumbersome task which is both expensive and complex. A new company, CitizenShipper.com, has it's sights set on changing that, by harnessing the unique and vast connectivity of the internet.

CitizenShipper connects freight with drivers returning from a previous run, who would otherwise be travelling empty. Because of this, shipping freight becomes much more economical since the drivers are, generally speaking, willing to ship freight for a lower price.

CitizenShipper.com, a startup company that was founded in 2008, has steadily grown into a network of more than 15,000 drivers, all willing to bid on freight. The company follows a reverse-auction approach so prices are usually driven down allowing individuals and businesses to ship their freight at just a fraction of traditional costs.

One happy customer from California we talked to explained:

"I found "My CitizenShipper" on line at a time when I was getting pretty desperate. I needed to have a refrigerator taken from my garage to my son-in-law and daughter's home about 20 miles away."

He continued to say:

"Unbelievably, the contractor who answered the ad was accepting my price (lower than what others quoted) and gave me a one hour window of when he could pick up the merchandise. He and his helper were awesome! I will definitely use this service again if I need a pickup and/or delivery! I am glad to know this service exists!"

Founder, Richard Obousy, believes that if enough people use the service then there could even be a benefit to the environment. He explains:

"29% of trucks on our roads today drive empty. This corresponds to 149 million tons of carbon emitted needlessly into the atmosphere each year."

That's a lot of empty trucks! Obousy continues:

"I believe that if enough people utilize this service then we can make a significant impact at reducing the CO2 emissions in the US, while at the same time helping the economy by reducing the amount of fuel that's wasted"

When digging a little deeper into the safety and security aspects of the site, we were greeted with a refreshingly cautious policy which puts the safety of the custimer first. The company completes professional background-checks on all it's verified members. In addition, if a shipement is lost, damaged or stolen, then it's covered by the company's insurance.

Obousy summarizes by explaining:

"Once we reach a critical mass of users, then using the service becomes a win-win situation for everyone who takes part. Drivers can make extra money delivering shipments in an otherwise empty truck, while clients can make significant savings on their shipments"

Shipping freight using CitizenShipper seems like the way-of-the-future. This sort of conscientious approach to the shipping industry is likely to catch on fast with rising gas prices and a slow economy. Drivers can make money on an otherwise empty truck, and customers can make appreciable savings since the driver is usually willing to mark down the rate for his return trip.
