CAI Releases North Carolina 2011/2012 Healthcare Benefits And Cost Survey Results

RALEIGH, NC, April 21, 2012 (Press-News.org) Bruce Clarke, president and CEO of CAI (http://www.capital.org), a human resource management firm that helps organizations maximize employee engagement while minimizing employer liability, has announced that the firm has released the results of the 2011/2012 N.C. Healthcare Benefits & Cost Survey, co-developed by CAI and Hill, Chesson & Woody (HCW), and co-sponsored by The Employers Association and Western Carolina Industries (WCI).

The Healthcare Benefits & Cost Survey is a statewide annual health plan benchmark survey for companies in North Carolina. The survey addresses the need for local benchmark data, providing employers with the information that is most critical in managing their employee benefits plan.

Data were collected from 715 participating organizations from across North Carolina. About 8 percent are located in Western N.C., 18 percent are located in the Charlotte area, 16 percent are located in the Piedmont Triad, 47 percent are located in the Research Triangle region, 7 percent are located in Eastern N.C., and 4 percent are located in the Southeastern portion of the state.

Of the respondents, 539 employers reported offering a traditional plan only; 76 employers reported offering a consumer-driven health plan only; and 100 employers reported offering both plans. Most participating employers, 73 percent, have fully insured plans, while about 26 percent have self-funded plans. Of the 639 employers with a traditional plan, about 22 percent offer a non-rollover Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), where the employer reimburses a portion of the deductible, co-insurance maximum, and/or office/drug co-pays. Of the 176 employers with a consumer-driven health plan, 135 employers (77 percent) have a Health Savings Account (HSA). Forty-one employers (23 percent) have a rollover Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).
