FALMOUTH, ENGLAND, May 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) Next month's J-Class Regatta should see sailing enthusiasts descend on Falmouth in great numbers.
The event, which is set to run from Tuesday June 26th to Saturday June 30th, will be the first regatta involving J-Class yachts to take place in the UK since the class was reborn.
J-Class yachts were the world's most prestigious sailing vessels in their 1930s heyday, when wealthy individuals had them built to compete in major competitions.
Only ten of the large super-yachts were constructed between 1930 and 1937, with one of them owned by King George V.
Now, several of the original J-Class vessels have been restored after years of neglect and are ready to set sail alongside brand new full-size replicas built in Europe.
"Spectators in Falmouth will be the first in the UK to view this wonderful fleet," said David Pitman of the J-Class Association.
"Enthusiasts from around the world will be coming to Falmouth to view the yachts and watch the racing," he added.
The races are due to take place in Falmouth Bay and along the coastline, with the surrounding headlands providing spectators with the perfect view.
Sailing fans can browse a large and varied selection of hotels in Falmouth at LateRooms.com, including The Westcott.

Energy production is always a hot topic in America, but there has seldom been such an influx of fuel-related news as there has been recently. Americans, growing weary of rising costs at the gasoline pump, are beginning to hear that increased oil production could get those fuel costs back down by the end of the summer. Meanwhile, natural gas supplies remain high, where prices are at historic lows.
