CARY, IL, July 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) Tom Hess, worldwide leader in online guitar instruction and member of metal band Rhapsody Of Fire has released an innovative online resource with the intention of helping others learn how to teach guitar lessons and become great guitar teachers.
Many new guitar teachers struggle to find new guitar students because their local area is dominated by one or two competing teachers who quickly gain control over any potential prospects. As a result, less experienced guitar teachers often end up teaching significantly less students. In his online resource, Hess explains this in detail with several statistics:
All stats are taken from http://tomhess.net/:
"95% of all electric guitar teachers in the United States have not purchased instructional material to help them teach guitar lessons.
98% of guitar teachers in the United States have reported that they work an additional job to support themselves due to low teaching income.
97% of guitar teachers in the U.S. have not received formal training, coaching or mentoring to help them improve their guitar teaching skills."
He continues with his remarks on these stats:
"The small percentage of guitar teachers who get the most students are the ones who take initiative to improve their guitar teaching businesses by seeking the training of a coach or mentor. As for the remaining majority, these guitar teachers end up working additional jobs because they cannot make a living on the small income they earn through teaching. By getting professional training to build your guitar teaching skills you will put yourself far ahead of the majority of the other teachers out there. That said, most guitar instructors will continue to market themselves as great teachers, when in fact they are only mediocre at best. This does not work out for them in the end as they do not actually help their students advance in their guitar playing. Eventually this leads to their downfall as they begin to develop a bad teaching reputation in their local community."
In Hess's online resource he talks about many ways to solve the most common guitar teaching problems in order to advance as a guitar teacher and build a successful guitar teaching business. One of the most common issues that he addresses is the challenge of teaching guitar to beginning students.
Hess explains his thoughts: "Beginner guitar students are the most common type of student that you will see as a guitar instructor. If you want to build a successful guitar teaching business, you must become effective at teaching these students." He goes on: "Many guitar teachers are under the false impression that teaching beginners is easy. In reality, the total opposite is true. In most cases, beginning guitar students are more difficult to teach than any other type. Since most guitar teachers do not understand how to teach these students, they frequently lose them after only several sessions together. Although there exist many potential solutions to this issue, the first thing that guitar teachers need to do is avoid teaching beginners in a linear fashion."
More details about Hess's resource on how to teach guitar lessons can be found on his website http://tomhess.net.
