Seventh Annual Boys $ Girls Club "Day For Kids"

Families are Invited to Spend Time Together at the National Celebration

2012-07-22
OXNARD, CA, July 22, 2012 (Press-News.org) Children thrive when they have a caring adult in their lives. To encourage quality family time and to celebrate children for who they are, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme invites everyone to join them at their free event, the Seventh Annual "Day for Kids". This year's family-oriented event will be held 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sept. 22 at the Martin V. Smith Youth Center, 1900 West 5th Street, Oxnard. There is no cost to attend.

Day for Kids is a day set aside each year to celebrate and honor America's children by spending meaningful time with them. It's about celebrating kids - children, grandchildren or any child in need of mentoring.

"At the Boys & Girls Club, we want every day to be a day for kids," said Tim Blaylock, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. "By setting aside a Saturday, we hope to encourage adults and youth to build on a connection that will last a lifetime."

Last year, 2,900 kids and families attended the Club's event, which engages the community. Local businesses and service agencies host booths and provide resources for youth and their families. There is carnival atmosphere, with games, a petting zoo, Games on wheels, free memberships, live entertainment, prizes, face painting, jolly jumpers, food, music, free-t-shirts and more.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America created the annual event in 2005 to strengthen relationships between positive adults and kids by educating them on the importance of spending meaningful time together.

Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information call 805-483-1118.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme exists to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
