Kanson Electronics Develops Innovative Timing Relay

Custom development process leads to device with industry-wide implications

HOHENWALD, TN, August 10, 2012 (Press-News.org) ISSC-Kanson Electronics announced today that it has developed a timing relay built for the future. The 1505 Continuous Duty Timing Relay is energy efficient, accommodates DC voltages 27-pecent higher than existing devices, and can be set to trigger an emergency shut-off within 1/40th of a second.

The 1505 relay is the result of Kanson's most recent work with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). TVA had noticed that timing relays within a number of switchgears at its Pickwick Landing Dam power generation facility were overheating. Kanson duplicated the site conditions at its factory, where it developed a custom solution designed to avoid similar, future issues. While the TVA system needed an upper limit of 270 VDC, the Kanson 1505 can tolerate DC voltages as high as 345 VDC, as well as AC voltages up to 260 VAC. As the needs of power generation companies evolve, Kanson anticipates that relay models like its 1505 will become standard issue for TVA, other power companies and switchgear manufacturers across the nation.

Kanson's product-development process is designed to address client specifications while anticipating future, industry-wide needs. An innovative, problem-solving company, Kanson is also capable of working under extreme time constraints, having produced the 1505 relay in roughly one-sixth of the standard development time. "In just two months' time, ISSC-Kanson Electronics was able to address an end customer concern and position our customer to move well into the future," says Allen Filson, president of the company.
