LOS ANGELES, CA, September 14, 2012
Award-winning, nonprofit community urban dance collective, J.U.i.C.E. (Justice United in Creative Energy) is proud to present the "5th Annual Hip Hop Festival" on September 22, 2012 at the Ford Amphitheatre at 8:00pm. The ALL AGES show will bring together the top street dance and B-Boy crews from around the country for one jam packed night of hip-hop dance, spoken word, graffiti art, film and live DJing. This year's festival will feature the talents of inner city youth performers and members of J.U.i.C.E's new program, "Each One Teach One." Other featured guests for the night include Antics Performance, Boogie Frantick, J.U.i.C.E, Lux Aeterna, The Waacker, and Versastyle Dance Company. Special out of town performers also gracing the stage include Ladies of Hip Hop (New York), 2nd Nature (Sacramento, CA), and Soul Shifters (Bay Area, CA). Leading jerkin' crew, the Avenger$ Crew and rising MC, Young Sam will add more heat to an already hot night of hip hop with their own exclusive performances. "The festival is an opportunity for up and coming artists from different generations, backgrounds and styles to present their work and celebrate the evolution of hip hop," describes show producer, Emiko Sugiyama.A special highlight of the evening will be the introduction of J.U.i.C.E's new program called "Each One Teach One," a dance and mentorship program for high school students and young adults supported by Flourish Foundation and the Asian Pacific Healthcare Venture. It is a free weekly creative arts mentorship program designed to teach at-risk youths how to not only choreograph and perform in a theatre environment, but also how to produce a formal dance event. The overall goal of "Each One Teach One" is to teach inner city young people to how to be ready to work in a professional setting as soon as they graduate from the program. Sugiyama will be mentoring 15 program members between the ages of 15 and 18 to represent J.U.i.C.E at the festival. Seven young male and eight young women were selected to create and perform an original piece for this year's festival called "Concrete Jungle," a story of youth survival in Los Angeles. The talented participants will represent various area schools, including Abraham Lincoln High School, John Marshall High School, Boyle Heights High School, Southeast High School, Central Los Angeles High School #9, Los Angeles High School of the Arts, Hollywood High School, and Santa Monica College.
Stylish footwear company, VLADO, who has been supporting dance community since 2009, will once again be a sponsor for this highly-anticipated event.
