Hospice of Michigan's Maggie Allesee Center Receives Approved Provider Status for Continuing Nursing Education

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to announce that its Maggie Allesee Center for Quality of Life has once again received accreditation as an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association.

2012-09-16
DETROIT, MI, September 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) Hospice of Michigan is pleased to announce that its Maggie Allesee Center for Quality of Life has once again received accreditation as an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association.

HOM is the only free-standing hospice program in Michigan to hold this status from the Wisconsin Nurses Association, which is an accredited approver of continuing nurse education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. In order to maintain licensure as a registered nurse, the state of Michigan requires 25 continuing nursing education credits, or CNEs, every two years.

Having approved provider status not only allows HOM to offer its nursing staff these credits free or minimal charge and at convenient location, but it also gives HOM the ability to work with nurses throughout the state and outside of the state of Michigan and properly educate them on issues and concepts dealing with end of life care.

"Providing hospice and palliative care requires special knowledge and understanding," said Rod Borillo, corporate director of education and training at Hospice of Michigan. "The ability to provide continuing nursing education helps us teach nurses new ways to improve the care they give patients in the last phase of life."

As part of HOM's education outreach mission, the organization is collaborating with local organizations, including Oakwood Hospital and the Jewish Caring Coalition to provide CNE to the community.

This is the third time HOM has received this accreditation, which expires after three years.

About the Maggie Allesee Center
The Maggie Allesee Center for Quality of Life at the Hospice of Michigan corporate headquarters was started with a generous $3 million endowment from Detroit-area philanthropist and civic leader Maggie Allesee. The center is the premier hub for education, training and research both in Michigan and nationally that is aimed at improving care for people who have life-limiting illness and their caregivers. The center also studies quality-of-life issues faced by older people, identifies ways they can live fully and educates them on how to plan for their own end-of-life care.

About Hospice of Michigan
A nationally recognized leader in end-of-life care, Hospice of Michigan is the original - and largest - hospice in the state of Michigan. The non-profit organization cares for more than 1,000 patients each day in 56 counties, raising more than $4 million each year to cover the cost of care for the uninsured and underinsured. HOM offers innovative programs to enhance the quality of care for people at the end of life, education programs for physicians and healthcare professionals, caregiver education materials, cultural diversity programs for end-of-life care, and research and education programs at the Maggie Allesee Center for Quality of Life. Automatic Stay in Bankruptcy

2012-09-16
Automatic Stay in Bankruptcy One of the most important protections bankruptcy offers is that of the automatic stay which stops most collection actions against the person who filed bankruptcy; known as the Debtor. Congress intended the stay to give the Debtor "breathing room," from the stress caused by being hounded by debt collectors and worrying about possibly losing a home or other basic necessities. The stay also gives the trustee time to review the Debtor's financial situation and to distribute assets to creditors in order of priority. People considering ...
