Hundreds of New Homes to be Built in Scotland
2012-11-02
LONDON, ENGLAND, November 02, 2012 (Press-News.org) The GBP90 million regeneration scheme will provide over seven hundred new homes in Scotland in the Gorbals, Laurieston area in Glasgow. It is hoped that as well as providing new build homes for local people, the project will also create a thriving local economy and many jobs for Glasgow.

A commercial development will also be included in the project as well as retail units, leisure facilities and hotels which will provide employment for local people. Large open spaces and community facilities will also be integrated as part of the planning. The region of Laurieston is one of eight regions targeted for regeneration in Scotland. The funding is being provided jointly by the Scottish Government with a funding pot of GBP14 million and the remaining funding will be provided by Glasgow City Council.

The first phase of house building has already started with 201 affordable homes under construction that will be available for the rental market. Further houses for sale will be built and available on the market once the commercial developments are constructed on the site.

The ten-year project that has taken years to commence is being managed by the Urban Union a consortium and is one of three regeneration proposals put forward in the mid 1990's by the New Gorbals Housing Association.
