MONTREAL, CANADA, November 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) The American Society of Civil Engineers continued a unique tradition of honoring the group's presidents, as Executive Director Patrick Natale unveiled the latest 3-dimensional retrospective art created by Lawrence Romorini, One Of A Kind Art Studio.
More than 100 miniaturized photos, news articles, publications and memorabilia showcase the first ten years of the new millennium - a decade that saw gripping examples of the challenges facing America's infrastructure and increasing involvement of civil engineers in advocating for solutions. Portraits of the presidents who led ASCE through this remarkable period are photoengraved in metal, surrounding ASCE's Vision 2025.
Measuring 40" x 34" x 7", the artwork premiered before an audience of past and present ASCE presidents and was displayed for all members during the association's annual meeting.
This new artwork joins a triptych of Romorini's previous retrospectives that honor all ASCE presidents since 1852 at the Society's national headquarters in Reston, VA. The three previous collages celebrate the evolution and milestone projects of civil engineering and ASCE accomplishments during each era: 1852-1901, 1902-1951, and 1952-2001.
The latest work reflects the profession's use of glass and sustainable materials, in contrast to previous structures of wood, steel and concrete construction. Reflecting the progression of members' professional tools, this is first in the series to replace a drawing board with a computer screen. The art is designed to add new ASCE presidents in the course of the next 10 years.
The project was initiated and inspired by ASCE Executive Director Pat Natale:
"The artistic concept for these collages captures perfectly the history and achievements of ASCE spanning more than a century and a half. They tell a story, and each of our presidents now has a place of distinction in our Executive Office to commemorate the legacies they left behind. These leaders have helped shape our world, and the collages are a great tribute to them."
Lawrence Romorini, founder of One Of A Kind Art Studio, in Silver Spring, Maryland, has gained a national reputation for the three-dimensional retrospective collages he has created for more than 25 years.
Romorini's artwork is on display nationwide, including commissions for American Chemical Society,
Marriott International, Southwest Airlines, Oprah Winfrey, SHRM, Michael Jordan, General Electric, ARTBA and many others, which can be seen on his website: http://www.oneofakindinc.com.
