Corinthia Cromwell, Singer And Saxophonist, Uplifts With New CD, Part Gospel And Part Jazz

Actress & Wynton Marsalis Protege Mixes It Up On Sophomore Release

2012-11-25
WALDORF, MD, November 25, 2012 (Press-News.org) Corinthia Cromwell is not your typical Gospel Jazz artist. As a psalmist, she knows how to draw the listener in with her moving vocals and emotive lyrics. As a saxophonist, she knows how to take her horn and execute jazz melodies that make the heart melt and the spirit soar. The merging of these two genres encompasses her sophomore CD entitled, Piece (Peace) of Mind: Outside The Lines. The CD, featuring Corinthia Cromwell & The Evolution Band, contains nine Gospel songs and six Jazz songs. A protege of Jazz great Wynton Marsalis and a graduate of Howard University with dual degrees in Music Therapy and Performance, Corinthia delivers all fifteen songs with superior musical excellence.

"This project was something that God gave me a little while ago," recalls Corinthia. "But when God gave it to me, it wasn't the right season to release it". Now in her season, Corinthia's Piece (Peace) of Mind: Outside The Lines, is a diverse musical display of multiple genres including R&B, funk and rock in addition to Gospel and Jazz. "God had me do the project - part gospel, part jazz - to reach two different audiences", explains the singer-saxophonist.

Tracks like the spirited churchy opener, "All Things" and the Caribbean-influenced "Speak Life, Over Yourself" put the focus totally on God. Listeners will enjoy the old time Jazz-styled, "One More Day" and the sweet yet reverent melodies of "Tis So Sweet", which features the talents of Baltimore's own jazz pianist extraordinaire Cyrus Chestnut. Lovers of smooth jazz will cherish the relaxing sounds of the inspirational instrumental "Phili's Gift" as well as the up-tempo grooves of "Sam's Jam". Cromwell, a gifted songwriter in her own right, had a hand in penning all but two of the CD's tracks. Providing a collage of music, Cromwell has provided something for everyone on Piece (Peace) of Mind: Outside The Lines.

The Baltimore, MD, resident has an impressive musical resume. Studying in New York City, she studied under jazz aficionados Jackie and Renee Mclean and Charles Davis while completing her Master's Degree at New York University. She's been blessed to play with artists such as Kirk Whalum, Regina Carter and the late Wayman Tisdale. In the Gospel world, she's played with such artists as icons Richard Smallwood and The Clark Sisters. She's also seen her share of accolades. Corinthia was named the 2011 Up and Coming Jazz Artist of the Year by the Baltimore Jazz Awards. Also, she was honored by Senator Rice of the State of New Jersey where she was given a Senate Resolution for her significant contributions in the field of entertainment in 2008.

Although music is a true passion, she's multi-talented in the world of entertainment. Her acting skills have been showcased in major box office hits such as Spike Lee's Malcolm X, Boomerang, starring Eddie Murphy and Robin Givens and Head of State, featuring Chris Rock.

Corinthia's latest project, Piece (Peace) of Mind: Outside The Lines, can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon.com and other online retailers. For more information on Corinthia Cromwell, log on to http://www.corinthiacromwell.com.
