BARRIE, ON, November 25, 2012 (Press-News.org) A local couple has helped give a boost to a company's Movember campaign in a big way. Heather Turner, owner of Toppers Pizza Barrie along with her husband Brett, have donated all of the pizzas for the "Armour Lip Charmours" Movember pizza day fundraiser.
The fundraiser took place on November 22nd at Busch Systems in Barrie. The "Armour Lip Charmours" is a Movember team is named after Armour Technology Solutions, a local IT company, which is a part of the Busch Group of Companies. The team has garnered a great deal of local attention due to the fact that the team boasts an 8 year-old boy as well as a local woman determined to help make a difference.
The Movember campaign is an annual event where men across the world grow moustaches while raising funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer. Originally started in Melbourne, Australia, Movember has 'grown' to epic proportions. In 2011, over 854,000 men around the world participated, raising $125.7 million CAD.
The Turner's have been actively involved in the community since they purchased the two Barrie Topper's Pizza locations two years ago, participating in many local fundraising campaigns for organizations such as the Barrie Rotary Club, Barrie Lion's Club, Gilda's Club Simcoe Muskoka and the Barrie Public Library in addition to Movember.
"We are excited to help out the Movember cause", states Heather Turner. "We've been involved in Movember before, but it is really nice to be involved with such an enthusiastic and dedicated group as the Lip Charmours".
Turner was born and raised in Barrie and recently decided to return to the area after 20 years away.
"We have always loved the area and are thrilled to be an active part of the community", states Turner. "Raising our children and being involved in the community in which we live and work is very important to us. I'm so happy we decided to return."
