Authors to Offer Writing Tips at Murray Workshop

Public invited to meet published authors and get insights on writing and publishing

MURRAY, UT, March 02, 2013

For anyone who has ever wanted to publish a book, the Murray Arts Advisory Board and the Utah Book Writer's Club is hosting a writing workshop Sat., Mar. 9 at the Murray Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to mix with published authors and get tips on publishing and writing. The Murray Arts Advisory Board will also present the winners of the 2013 Murray Writing Competition.

Author-presenter genres range from children's books to young adult fantasy to self-help. Class authors include award-winning fantasy writer Connie Walker. Walker just completed her "Wolkarean" trilogy, which includes The Spire of Kylet, The Eyes of Landor, and Triumph at Serpent's Head. Connie has also had six plays produced. She is working on a second trilogy and a stand-alone novel.

Utah Humanities Council "Author on Main Street" Karl Beckstrand writes multicultural children's books--in both English and Spanish. Beckstrand has two new activity books out: Why Juan Can't Sleep: A Mystery? and Arriba Up, Abajo Down at the Boardwalk.

Club founder and young-reader author, David R. Christensen has authored five books: The Mystery of the Grinning Buddha, The Mystery of the Ugly Bird, The Mystery of the Haunted Lighthouse, Stanley Billings: That's Me and Tivoli's Christmas.

Patricia Potts is a speaker, singer and author of three books. My Journey from Darkness to Light is her true story of victory over depression and bi-polar illness. First-Aid for Feelings is a resource for anyone seeking to overcome painful, "damaging feelings such as anger, frustration, discouragement and worry." From Darkness to Light is a rewrite of her first book from an LDS perspective. Presenters often speak to groups of all ages, sharing practical steps to productivity.

Authors will offer ideas, share excerpts from new releases, mingle with guests and sign books. Booklovers and aspiring authors will be able to ask questions and purchase signed books. The cost of the workshop is $10 with advanced registration or $15 at the door. Seniors and students get a $5 discount. The Murray Library is at 166 E. 5300 South, in Murray, Utah. To register go to http://murray.utah.gov/DocumentCenter/Home/View/2132 or Murray Parks and Recreation, 296 E. Murray Park Ave., in Murray.
