Spectrum Athletic Clubs Asks Public To Join In Fight Against ALS

Special Classes, Memorabilia Auction & Festivities To Mark 2nd Annual "Gettin' Down With Toni Brown" May 11

2013-04-12
LONG BEACH, CA, April 12, 2013 (Press-News.org) Toni Brown earned a reputation as one of Southern California's leading spin instructors. Then, in a cruel twist of fate, her body turned against her as ALS, a crippling condition also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, took hold of her with its ugly grip. Within a matter of months, she was forced to trade her spin bike for a wheelchair. Now, in her honor, the public is being invited to join in the fight against ALS.

On Saturday, May 11, Spectrum Athletic Clubs is opening its doors at each of its 12 locations in the greater LA and Santa Barbara areas to the general public for its 2nd annual Gettin' Down With Toni Brown. Special classes and fitness sessions will be held and members and the public, alike, may donate a minimum $25 to participate. Meanwhile, a silent auction of sports memorabilia, state-of-the-art fitness equipment and unique events involving sports stars will be available (visit http://www.spectrumclubs.com for activities, classes, auction info and locations).

Also, taking center stage this year, is a Life Fitness group cycling bike that will be dedicated in Brown's honor whereby those interested may donate a minimum of $25 to spin for one hour on the bike; sign-ups will be available May 11 & 12. The bike will be situated at the South Bay club.

100% of proceeds will benefit Augie's Quest, the Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS research initiative.
Brown is helping organize the fundraiser that bears her name and is grateful for the rousing support of Spectrum's upper management, fellow trainers, club members and friends and family.

"I was so thrilled that we beat last year's $50,000 goal and I'm hoping that we can do the same this year," said Brown.
Every 60 minutes, an American is diagnosed with ALS. It comes out of nowhere and strikes even the healthiest of us. What begins with flu-like symptoms leads to a loss of balance and eventually the nerve cells that control movement throughout the body shut down. While the body is completely paralyzed, the mind remains fully intact.

On the heels of a multi-million dollar renovation and improvement campaign, Spectrum Athletic Clubs boast spacious, modern facilities, highly trained staff, the latest in fitness equipment, high-end amenities and a full range of fitness programming. Spectrum prides itself in providing a fitness experience designed to help its members achieve their individual goals. For more details about memberships or fitness class information, visit http://www.spectrumclubs.com.
