PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 17, 2013 (Press-News.org) According to Daryl Alison--a leading figure in vehicle-donation fundraising and charities--most U.S. vehicle owners are well aware of the advantages that come from donating their cars to non-profits, but they nevertheless choose not to do so. To illustrate his point, Alison points to a recent study, conducted by the vehicle donation charity Kars4Kids. The results of the study reveal that, indeed, awareness levels are high, yet most vehicle owners still prefer to sell their cars instead of donating them. Alison has released a new press statement, responding to this intriguing study.
According to the Kars4Kids survey, 88 percent of U.S. adults are aware that there are tax credits available for making non-cash charitable donations, including donations of cars. Even so, most adults choose to sell their cars rather than donate them. Indeed, the study finds that only 10.5 percent of U.S. adults have ever donated a vehicle.
The study goes on to note that non-cash donations are not, in and of themselves, uncommon. 94 percent of adults say they donate items from their home in order to "de-clutter" their basement, attic, or garage space, at least once a year.
"That some folks need to use their older vehicles as trade-ins to obtain new cars is understandable, but the astonishing thing about these survey numbers is that they show many adults actually keep old vehicles but never use them--basically just allowing them to sit and gather dust," comments Alison, in his press statement. Indeed, the Kars4Kids report suggests that 4.6 percent of adults keep vehicles and do not use them, despite the fact that these cars could easily and conveniently be donated.
Alison suggests that there may be factors in play beyond simply economics. "Most American adults know that there are tax benefits to be gained from donating vehicles, yet they do not do so--why is this?" he asks. "The answer may be that many vehicle owners really do not realize how easy it is to donate a car. They assume it will be a major headache, when in reality it is anything but. Most vehicle donation charities will send tow-trucks to pick up these vehicles, at no cost to the donator!"
Daryl Alison is both a classic car enthusiast and a strong proponent of vehicle donation charities; he has worked in this field for 15 years and counting.
