Professionals at QMedRx Urge Individuals to Familiarize Themselves with Symptoms of Lyme Disease
QMedRx explains why it is important for individuals to understand the symptoms of Lyme disease and when they should reach out to a healthcare professional.
PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 17, 2013
QMedRx is a healthcare and pharmacy services company that specializes in Lyme disease treatment, among other areas of focus. As such, the organization is well aware that there are many ways in which cases of Lyme disease can be overlooked by reports generated by bodies like the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), making this condition seem much less prevalent than it really is. Here, the company provides a press statement highlighting the essential nature of understanding the symptoms of Lyme disease in response to an article posted by SFGate.com, which explains how the CDC can skew statistics through its narrow definition of Lyme disease.According to the article: "The CDCs method disregards thousands of otherwise positive diagnoses [of Lyme disease], making the illness seem uncommon [...] One way to be counted is if a doctor verifies an Erythema Migrans (bulls-eye) rash that's at least five centimeters across. You could have a known tick bite, other symptoms of Lyme, and an EM rash that's 4.5 centimeters across, and it won't count."
The article goes on to note that not all individuals who suffer from Lyme disease develop a rash and that the test that screens for this condition is, ultimately, unreliable. Because this leads to cases of Lyme disease remaining unreported, individuals may assume that the illness does not pose as much of a threat as it really does.
The professionals at QMedRx released the following statement to the press regarding the importance of recognizing the severity of Lyme disease and the symptoms that characterize it: "With spring and summer at hand, individuals are going to be spending an increasing amount of time outside. This means that they will risk greater odds of exposure to ticks that carry Lyme disease. For this reason, it is imperative that parents, particularly, understand what the symptoms of this condition are and how to respond if they suspect that a member of their family has been infected."
The statement goes on to explain that swelling and pain in the joints and abdomen, chronic fatigue, mood swings, headaches, dysfunction of the muscles, and fogginess are all signs of Lyme disease. QMedRx encourages individuals who suspect that they have this condition to see a doctor immediately.
