TORONTO, ON, April 24, 2013 (Press-News.org) The personal injury law firm of McLeish Orlando is pleased to announce its participation in a spinal cord injury conference for health care providers entitled, "Catastrophic Impairment: A Look in the Future." The one day conference will be held at The Carlu in Toronto on June 13, 2013, starting at 8:00 AM. The event will be of interest to those involved in the advocacy and care of individuals who have suffered a serious injury, such as health care professionals, social workers, life care planners, discharge planners and occupational therapists.
According to Spinal Cord Injury Canada, there are over 86,000 people living with spinal cord injuries in the country, and every year it is estimated there are more than 4,300 new spinal cord injury cases in Canada. Slightly more than half of the incidents of spinal cord injury in Canada are the result of a traumatic event, such as an accident, and nearly half are the result of a non-traumatic event, such as a disease. Understanding the issues central to recovery from spinal cord injury will better help any professional involved in related care and work.
The conference on catastrophic impairment seeks to accomplish a number of goals. The conference aims to provide information central to effective legal advocacy in a spinal cord injury case. The conference will also provide information on the latest developments in spinal cord treatment and rehabilitation as well as provide a forum to discuss care and treatment strategies. Finally, the conference aims to enhance the funding of St. Michael's Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. To accomplish these goals a range of issues will be addressed at the conference. Speakers will address issues from research on spinal cord injury concerning stem cell advances to life care planning.

2013-04-24
The Second Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that the First Amendment protects pharmaceutical companies and their employees from criminal prosecutions involving off-label drug marketing. Some observers think that this case could eventually lead to a new legal approach to off-label pharmaceutical uses - an approach that could conceivably change how off-label whistleblower lawsuits unfold against drug manufacturers and healthcare providers.
Although off-label prescription drugs are involved in many False Claims Act cases, this decision looks unlikely to have any ...

2013-04-24
Bleeding gums are an all-too-common occurrence, but the dentists at Norcross Dental Associates know that healthy gums do not bleed easily. The Gwinnett dentists want their patients to understand the root causes of bleeding gums.
Most frequently, bleeding gums are caused by bacterial, viral or fungal infections of the gums. These infections can cause gingivitis or inflame the gums, causing them to shrink away from our teeth and become more susceptible to bleeding on contact. Poor dental hygiene, such as not brushing or flossing properly, can also lead to our gums bleeding.
