SAN DIEGO, CA, April 24, 2013 (Press-News.org) Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR), is proud to announce it has been awarded the national Contractor of the Year award (CotY) in the category Kitchens $80,001-120,000 for the remodel of a kitchen inspired by East Coast colonial style. This is the third major award for the Del Mar kitchen, which recently won a first place ASID award and was also a winner of Architectural Digest's Before/After contest.
"This is a tremendous honor for our team," said Todd Jackson, President and CEO of JDR. "The national CotY awards are the most prestigious in our industry as they are voted on by our fellow remodeling peers. This award is a team effort that belongs to our incredible crew of designers, architects and project managers who are committed to delivering outstanding work for every client we serve. We look forward to continuing to strive for excellence and to serve our clients with integrity, passion and quality."
The winning kitchen was built for a retired couple with Maryland roots living on the California coast in Del Mar who wanted their kitchen to embrace its natural surroundings while honoring the aesthetics of East Coast Colonials. Strategic space planning was essential for this kitchen, which was moved to a part of the house that better captured ocean views and designed with three entrances for ideal access and circulation. Meticulous molding is just one of the architectural details that transforms the room from its original ranch house blandness to character-rich splendor. Peninsulas were added for prime storage and functionality in a room with limited wall space. Windows with authentic casing and nostalgic lighting over the island delineate the East Coast look. Mahogany floors, a wood countertop on the island and hard rock maple cabinetry with a painted alabaster finish evoke a Maryland mood. The new kitchen is a refreshing interpretation of Colonial style on the California coast.
The kitchen was designed by a unified team consisting of Senior Interior Designer Tatiana Machado-Rosas and Architectural Designer John Kavan.
A panel of impartial judges who are experts within the industry and associated fields select CotY winners based on each entrant's "before and after" photography and project description. Judging was based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.
To be considered for a CotY Award, a company must be a NARI member in good standing. The entries of this year's competition totaled over $71 million worth of remodeling projects. NARI members represent an elite group of the approximately 800,000 companies and individuals in the U.S. identifying themselves as remodelers.
