Sandy Levine details effective ways to use social media during disasters

2013-04-27
OLNEY, MD, April 27, 2013 (Press-News.org) Advice Unlimited LLC, a Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) serving government organizations and IT firms supporting the government, is honored that its President and founder, Sandy Levine, was chosen to deliver a session for government communicators on using social media in a disaster. The session was presented at the 2013 NAGC Communications School in Arlington, VA on April 18.

Ms. Levine's standing-room only session provided hands-on guidance on how to integrate social media into disaster recovery communications plans. During the interactive presentation, Ms. Levine discussed real-world scenarios, including Hurricane Sandy and the Boston Marathon bombings, where social media played a crucial role.

Participants learned how to evaluate different social media sites for broadness of reach, targeting of specific audiences, and message delivery speed. The session also included information on how to prioritize and integrate social media goals to ensure the overall communications plan gets implemented in a timely and effective manner, with energies focused for maximum results, especially in the crucial first few days immediately following a disaster or emergency.

"I was honored to be chosen as a speaker at this conference, and I was delighted with the interest and participation level of attendees," said Sandy Levine, President, Advice Unlimited LLC. "It is essential that we, as government public servants, effectively use social media to help us meet our mission: educating the public, disseminating critical information in a rapid, readable and easily understood format that our audiences embrace, calming fears and dispelling rumors."

The 2013 NAGC (National Association of Government Communicators) Communications School was held April 17-19 at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, VA. The event provided networking opportunities and select practical educational sessions to help government communicators increase their skills. To learn more, please visit http://www.nagconline.org/.
