Southside Spirit House Opens in SoMA May 3
2013-05-01
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 01, 2013 (Press-News.org) The bustling SoMA neighborhood will soon have a new destination to enjoy well-made cocktails and tasty light bites while relaxing with friends and colleagues. Southside Spirit House, officially opening on May 3rd, is slated to become the neighborhood's latest hot spot. Whether enjoying happy hour after work, cocktails and hors d'oeveures before dinner or late night eats, the classically inspired San Francisco bar and lounge will cater to the business casual crowd and locals alike with its casual, yet upscale vibe and friendly ambiance.

The intimate 2,000 square foot space offers a comfortable atmosphere with warm woods and brushed iron. Shades of subtle blues and grays create a calming vibe imbued by soft, natural lighting from the floor to ceiling windows that flank the front of the venue.

The renovation includes new wood floors, a hand crafted wooden bar, new skylight, wood wall accents and large screen TVs to showcase sports and important events. A centralized art installation rotating local artists will give Southside a hip, stylish vibe with a nod to San Francisco's lively art community. A wall of retro-styled cassette tapes makes for a fun nod to the time before iTunes.

An expansive selection of fine spirits includes rare, unique finds and all the necessities for spirit-driven San Franciscans in a friendly atmosphere. Great cocktails made with fresh ingredients in new and classic cocktails will be crafted without pretense. House-made syrups such as roasted blueberry, flamed orange peels and other flourishes provide innovative twists on a seasonally rotating selection.

"Southside Spirit House will appeal to those who enjoy a great cocktail and a comfortable atmosphere where they can unwind after the workday," said owner Colin O'Malley. "Our goal is to make our guests feel comfortable enough to order a drink without an MBA in mixology, while creating a vibe that makes them want to stay and linger."

Southside Spirit House will appeal to groups, seeking a social, yet cozy environment. A comfortable seating selection includes tall top tables, intimate nooks and circular banquets. Carafe cocktails such as the Fresh Peach Margarita Pitcher, which includes Espolon Tequila, Grand Marnier, housemade fresh peach syrup puree and fresh lime or The Green Beast Punch with Absinthe, fresh lime juice, simple syrup and water are sure to please a crowd. Wifi will be available to those not quite ready to relinquish the workday. A selection of 12 beers will be available on tap from craft brehouses including Dogfish Head, Deschutes, Firestone, Hitachino Nest and Speakeasy. Bottled beer will include Delirium Tremens, Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse, Chimay, Stone Brewing and wines including Green Barrel Wine Merchants and Artesa. Happy hour will offer $1.00 off all cocktails each weekday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Michael Frances, previously of Campton Place, RNM and La Folie curated a selection of simple, delicious, light bites including Deviled Eggs served with Bacon, Jalapeno, Creme Fraiche or Truffled Popcorn. Flatbread pizzas will be a popular choice for groups, particularly with items like the Southside with Fresh Fig, Stilton cheese and Thyme or the Mission with Mushroom, Fontina, and Truffle Oil. Sweet treats to end the night - or begin it on a lighter note - include Canton Ginger Cognac Cookies; Grapefruit, Blood Orange and Campari Sorbet; Southside Doughnut Holes or Chocolate Waffle with Creme Fraiche Whipped Cream. Southside will serve late night food until 1 a.m. from Monday through Saturday.

Southside will include a variety of ambient background music including motown, rare grooves, light house and Indie selections throughout the week. The finest local DJs will spin background music on the weekends. If dancing ensues later in the evening, furniture may be moved to accommodate it, but the venue will be primarily focused on maintaining a professional, if groovy, cocktail vibe.

With a cozy yet cool atmosphere, ambient music and an upscale setting, Southside is a great spot for group events, dates, parties and late night bites.
