Titan Holdings, Inc. And Cherokee Holdings Llc, Both Wholly Owned Subsidiaries Of Scalada Holdings, Ltd., To Team Up To Ensure Environmental Sustainability For Norway's Krill Oil Production Industry
Titan Holdings to add its engineering expertise to Cherokee Holdings' proven track record of providing ecologically sustainable solutions to environmental problems.
SINGAPORE, May 02, 2013
Manly Logan, CEO of Scalada Holdings, Ltd., (www.scaladaholdings.net) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Titan Holdings Inc., will be brought in to assist Cherokee Holdings LLC, an engineering firm which is another of Scalada's wholly owned subsidiaries, to prepare a proposal to solve major ecological problems faced by Norway in its harvesting and production of krill oil. Cherokee was approached last week for its successful history of providing ecologically sustainable solutions to environmental problems based on its combined efforts of joint ventures, management consulting, and technological innovation. Titan Holdings, Inc. has been brought on board for its engineering expertise. The two companies have worked together on many projects in the past.Krill oil is made from a species of krill, small crustaceans found in all the world's oceans and an essential organism in the Antarctic ecosystem, fundamental to the survival of almost every species of animal that lives in the Antarctic or sub-Antarctic waters and island groups. Krill oil has increasingly importantly applications in the pharmaceutical industry for its exceedingly high concentrations of Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidant qualities.
Norway has become the largest harvester of krill with an annual krill catch of approximately 120,000 tonnes, a fraction of an Antarctic Ocean stock estimated at between 100 million to 500 million tonnes. Yet, even though the harvesting is statistically low, it has already shown some seriously adverse ecological impacts. In 2008, the Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg emphasized that "We are very concerned to catch krill in an environmentally sustainable way."
Various international organizations and enterprises have also addressed the seriousness of the potentially disastrous effects of krill overkill harvesting practices. These institutions include the Marine Stewardship Council, the Commission for Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, the World Wildlife Foundation Norway, the Arctic Krill Conservation Project (funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts), and AkerBioMarine, a Norwegian integrated biotech company.
Titan's proposed partnering with Cherokee to assess the full scope of the problem, as well as to propose solutions, brings to the process important engineering expertise which will allow Norway and its stakeholder companies to administer krill harvesting waters in ways which are both ecologically sustainable and scientifically sound.
Scalada Holdings CEO Manly Logan expressed his confidence in the team effort when announcing the joint venture. "The combined expertise of our two subsidiaries, Cherokee Holdings and Titan Holdings, will be a formidable asset to both the Norwegian government and the krill oil production industry."
