ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA, May 02, 2013 (Press-News.org) Delivering the most advanced GPS vehicle tracking system in the country - Securatrak - assisted Santos to reduce serious vehicle incidents by creating critical driver's safety awareness and safe driving habits throughout their fleet with Securatrak's innovative In Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS).
Santos is one of the most notable names in gas and oil exploration supplying Australia and Asia. Because of the nature of their industry, Santos experienced an ongoing rise in a number of serious vehicle incidents between 2004 and 2006. A majority of these occurrences happen at operational sites at the infamous Australian outback and despite of the various safe-driving initiatives the company has implemented.
This prompts the Australian energy giant to initiate a "SafeDrive" Campaign in 2007 with a health and safety vision "We all go home without injury or illness." As part of this campaign, Securatrak's GPS tracking devices were initially installed in 32 vehicles on a trial basis.
With the GPS in vehicle monitoring system installed, Santos aimed to reduce the number of incidents that might occur in desolate areas in and around their work sites. And after a couple of months, the result they experience was better than they have expected.
Since the installation of Securatrak's IVMS in their vehicles, Santos had a dramatic reduction in serious vehicle incidents. This vastly improved their overall safety record as well as significantly reduced their insurance, fuel and maintenance cost.
Santos also claimed vehicle rollovers have reduced from six incidents per year to zero and they have not had any serious vehicle incident since then.
The success Santos experienced was due to the advanced features of Securatrak's IVMS which uses the latest in communications and GPS technology. "Our fleet tracking solution is packed with relevant modules including the Driver Safety module that helps minimise the inherent risk to lone workers," said Securatrak.
Our IVMS can tack a vehicle's speed, route and harsh braking events and indicate if a driver is not wearing a seat belt or if the 4WD is not engaged when it should be. The device then sends this critical information back to base whilst providing the driver with real-time feed back on his driving habits. This allowed Santos to identify and counsel employees who are at most risk due to poor driving habits.
Not only does Securatrak's GPS system highlight unsafe driving practices, it can also point out potential blind spots or danger zones on the roads which can be improved.
While the reduced number of accidents and incidents is the major benefit, Securatrak GPS tracking device has also made Santos fleet management more streamlined and cost effective. Moreover, the cost associated with insurance claims as well as maintenance and fuel costs were significantly reduced. Added to that, the devices are exceptionally reliable and accurate making the whole arrangement very easy to manage.
Today, over 500 Santos vehicles across South Australia and Queensland have been installed with Securatrak's In Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS).
