Food and Beverage Leaders in Milwaukee Get an Exclusive Look at Recycling Food Waste into Electricity

A state-of-the-art community digester is being built in Milwaukee, WI by the Forest County Potawatomi Community (FCPC). The renewable energy project will be operational Fall 2013.

WEST ALLIS, WI, May 08, 2013

On May 2, 2013 Food and beverage leaders were treated to a "first look" event and tour for the new food waste recycling facility in Milwaukee. The event was held at Potawatomi Bingo and Casino.

Co-hosted by Forest County Potawatomi Community (FCPC), Advanced Waste Services and Titus Energy, the event highlighted why the renewable energy facility was built, how it was constructed with Made In USA materials and how a community digester benefits businesses and the environment.

Additionally, event attendees learned what type of organic food waste will be accepted, how the digester process works and a walking-tour of the "almost operational" renewable energy facility.

"Manufacturers recognize the need to adopt environmentally sustainable waste solutions," says Mike Malatesta, President of Advanced Waste Services. "This project gives Wisconsin food and beverage manufacturers a new sustainable option that is not dependent on the weather or the season; it is not odor emitting or water polluting and, best of all, creates renewable energy from waste."

Construction will be complete in 2013 with operations starting in Fall 2013. Food and beverage wastes will be broken down by the digester's microorganisms creating a methane gas that will be burned in an engine designed to make up to 2 megawatts of clean, green and renewable electricity.

FCPC Renewable Energy's anaerobic digester is shifting the traditional business growth model for food and beverage manufacturers in Wisconsin. The facility is located in the Menomonee Valley in Milwaukee, WI.
