ALBANY, NY, May 11, 2013 (Press-News.org) In April 2013, the Engeye Board of Directors moved to hire long-time Engeye volunteer and supporter, David Robinson, as their first executive director. This is a new position within Engeye, Inc. The decision to hire an executive director was reached after much discussion, research, and professional consultation. Through this resolution the board of directors aspires to achieve improved organizational growth and financial stability. After an interview and review process, the board of directors extended this opportunity to David, who moved into his new role on May 6, 2013.
In 2008, David first traveled to Uganda to assist Providence Medical Center in Portland, Oregon with their pioneer medical mission to Engeye Clinic. This successful endeavor was followed by similar missions in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, David returned to Engeye, where he worked to expand the education and income-generating objectives of the Engeye Scholars program.
David comes to his position with many years of experience fostering partnerships with the Ugandans and communities served by Engeye, Inc. He is trained in international business development and has a proven passion in empowering challenged individuals and communities. David will work with the board of directors to develop annual budgets, draft and implement fundraising campaigns, and, among other responsibilities, support the Ugandan staff and partners of the organization.
Speaking on behalf of the Engeye Board of Directors, Dr. Stephanie Van Dyke, co-founder of Engeye Health Clinic, says, "We believe it to be a necessary part of Engeye's growth toward sustainability. Over the past several years, it has become increasingly apparent that voluntary board members without an executive director do not support a sustainable model...We are confident...through a concerted group effort, we will meet this year's challenges and [strengthen] the organization along the way."
More information on the board's decision can be obtained by contacting Elaine Pers Hickey at elaine@engeyescholars.com or by going to the organization's website at http://www.engeye.org. To reach David Robinson directly, please email him at drobinson@engeye.org.
Engeye, Inc., a U.S. and Ugandan NGO based in Uganda. It created in 2006 to address the disparity in basic health, education and environmental needs of rural Ugandan villagers. The Engeye Health Clinic provides care to a region in Uganda that has substantial need and lacks adequate access to healthcare. The Engeye Scholars program assists schools in this region. Education is highly valued in Uganda and research proves that education is key in raising poor countries out of poverty. Engeye, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) tax deductible, nonprofit organization.
