"Obama Girl" Director Produces Afghanistan War Film

Producer Larry Strong has teamed up with writer/director Damian Voerg to create an independent film set during the early days of Operation Enduring Freedom.

2013-05-14
LATHAM, NY, May 14, 2013 (Press-News.org) DLP Media, LLC. is happy to announce that preproduction has begun on its first feature film, entitled, Cigarette Soup.

Written and directed by Damian Voerg, Cigarette Soup is a gritty verite-style drama set during the early days of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military operation in Afghanistan. The film follows an aspiring journalist embedded inside a small band of American soldiers. After a surprise attack, the men become separated from their unit and find themselves trapped in an insurgent bunker -- surrounded on all sides by the enemy.

The filmmakers intend to cast actors with military backgrounds. "We hope to support the effort to employ returning vets and add a layer of authenticity to the project," Damian Voerg says.

Award-winning filmmaker Larry Strong, formerly of TuFux Entertainment, has signed on to produce. Mr. Strong's credits include Last Day of Summer, starring DJ Qualls and Nikki Reed, and Serial, starring Dexter's Lauren Velez. Mr. Strong was one of the directors of the 2007 "Obama Girl" viral video sensation "I Got A Crush On Obama," which has over 26 million views on YouTube.

Cigarette Soup is executive-produced by Paul Page, a financial services expert with over 20 years of business, operations and technology experience. Mr. Page specializes in developing alternative financing models.

Not all cytokine-producing cells start out the same way

2013-05-13
PHILADELPHIA – Cytokines are molecules produced by immune cells that induce the migration of other cells to sites of infection or injury, promote the production of anti-microbial agents, and signal the production of inflammatory mediators. These events are important for fighting infections. However, sometimes this process goes unchecked, resulting in unwanted inflammation that can damage tissues and organs. Interleukin 17, or IL17, is a well-studied cytokine that regulates immune function at mucosal surfaces in the body but is dysregulated in many diseases, such as multiple ...
