La Nina Weather Pattern Means a High Likelihood of an Epic Heli-Ski Season for Heliskiing Review
2010-10-31
VANCOUVER, BC, October 31, 2010 (Press-News.org) Meteorologists and weather experts around the globe are predicting that the winter of 2010-11 could represent the strongest La Nina weather event since 1955! Typically, La Nina events mean above-average precipitation, increased snowpack, and lower temperatures lasting from the Winter until Spring. Weather forecast models are predicting that this cool, wet weather pattern has a bull's-eye on the Pacific Northwest.

While this means bad news for commuters and city officials, it is great news for heli-skiing enthusiasts worldwide. HeliskiingReview.com, an online heli-ski broker representing over 40 different operators throughout Alaska and British Columbia, is predicting that snow conditions could be amongst the best seen in recent decades for helicopter skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.

C.P.O. (Chief Powder Officer) of Heliskiing Review, Tom Jackson, has noted an uptick in bookings, which he attributes to a couple of factors. "I think the combination of the economic recovery finally taking place, along with the anticipation of potentially phenomenal ski conditions thanks to the La Nina weather pattern are really giving the 2011 Heli-Skiing season an opportunity to be a great one," says Jackson. "One heliskiing operator in Canada I spoke with was already sold out for the 2011 season by mid-August."

With some statistical models suggesting that the regions of Alaska and British Columbia can expect anywhere from 125% to 150% or more of their typical annual snowfall this upcoming season, demand is expected to continue to grow as the heliski season draws ever closer to its late November or early December launch.
