RALEIGH, NC October 31, 2010 (Press-News.org) Raleigh Little Theatre is pleased to present the latest performance in their Youth Series, Jungalbook, November 5-21. Jungalbook will be performed in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre and directed by Linda O'Day Young. As Edward Mast's first play for young audiences, this adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Books, embodies the spirits of loyalty, adventure, and betrayal found in the original stories. Jungalbook won a Distinguished Play Award from the American Alliance for Theatre and Education in 1991.
Set deep in a jungle of India, Jungalbook tells the classic story of Mowgli, the human child who is raised by wolves. He is befriended by Baloo the bear and kept under the watchful eye of Bagheera, the lone panther. We follow Mowgli as he learns that he is not actually a wolf but instead a human who must defend himself against Sherakhan, the fearsome tiger who killed his parents. When Mowgli finally meets Sherakhan face-to-face he uses rope stolen from a nearby village to defend himself which is against jungle law. He is forced to choose between defying jungle law and facing the consequences, or leaving the jungle forever.
Raleigh Little Theatre honors the lush setting of Kipling's classic stories with costumes, music and dance inspired by the culture of India.
Tickets for Jungalbook are $13 for adults and $9 for children. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.raleighlittletheatre.org or from the RLT Box Office at 919-821-3111.
